Vegetables That Should Go Together

At Organic Restaurants we know just how dynamic and interesting the flavors of various vegetables can be. If you’re running a healthy organic restaurant, then it pays to know what some of the most popular veggies pair with and how they can add to each one of your meals.

Veggie Pairings

Many vegetables taste great on their own, but get even better when paired with another vegetable. Here are some of our favorite combinations:

  • Avocado and Spinach: These to taste great paired together and offer plenty of nutrients. A salad with avocado and spinach is full of protein and good fats, making for a filling meal. They also go great together on a burger.
  • Broccoli and Cauliflower: They’re similarly shaped but taste quite different. They work well together in many vegetable mixes and offer plenty of nutrients.
  • Carrots and Potatoes
  • Peppers and Broccoli
  • Cabbage and Collard Greens
  • Mushrooms and Broccolini

Veggie and Herb or Spice Pairings

  • Sweet Potatoes and Cinnamon: The cinnamon really brings out the sweetness of the sweet potato and help give this classic dish a bolder flavor overall.
  • Carrots and Cumin: This adds just the right amount of spice and flavor without being overwhelming
  • Peas and Thyme: A little bit of thyme provides a lot of flavor, spicing up a vegetable that some think of as boring.
  • Brussels Sprouts with Garlic and Parsley: Brussels sprouts had a bad reputation for a while as a vegetable parents forced their kids to eat, but these sprouts are quite versatile and incredibly tasty when seasoned right.
  • Cabbage with Cilantro and Cumin
  • Eggplant with Basil and Parsley
  • Beets with Cinnamon
  • Broccoli with Basil and Oregano
  • Orange squash with Thyme, Rosemary, and Basil

These are just a few of the combinations that you can try out. They all make for great side dishes on their own, but you can probably already tell that some would compliment each other. Many would go great with meat and fish dishes as well.

Veggie and Meat Pairings

Grilled Salmon and Asparagus: There are many ways to cook both of these ingredients, but no matter how they are generally good companions on a plate together due to their different, yet complementary, flavors and textures.

Filet Mignon with Sauteed Vegetables: Sauteed vegetables like Brussels sprouts, broccoli, and carrots can all go well with a savory steak, especially with the right seasoning and a little bit of char.

Steak and Mushrooms or Onions: Speaking of steak, sauteed mushrooms or grilled onions make for perfect pairing with most types of steak. If you get adventurous, caramelized versions of either veggie work well too.

Roasted Chicken and Potatoes: The savory flavors of a roasted chicken can pair well with many types of potato dishes, from garlic mashed potatoes and rosemary seasoned fingerling potatoes to baked sweet potatoes.
