East facing rooms receive bright, warm light in the morning which then cools off into the evening…

But don’t worry, you don’t need colour-shifting paint! (although how cool would that be?)

For East facing rooms, the best place to start is to consider when the room would be used the most - is it a bedroom where you’d like to wake up feeling calm and recharged in the morning? Maybe it’s a living room that’s mostly used during the evenings after work? Whenever the room is used the most, this is generally when you’d want it to feel the most balanced. From this, you can determine whether you need a warm or a cool shade!

Let’s talk bedrooms - in order to wake up feeling recharged and refreshed, you may wish to avoid warmer colours with undertones such as red, pink, brown or yellow. The bright morning sunlight will amplify any warm hues, which could make the room feel overwhelming and “hot”. Whereas cool blue, green or violet undertones will make the room feel balanced in the morning, whilst still feeling calm and restful in the evening.

Top tip: using warm light bulbs and ambient lighting will help take the edge off the cool evening light!

If you’re painting a space that is used most in the evenings, such as a living room, simply reverse the above rule! Colours with warm undertones will knock back the cooler evening light to keep the space as balanced and cosy as possible.

Deep Breath

Deep Breath is a gorgeous minty green paint colour with soft, pearly undertones which would create a serene atmosphere in any East facing room where balance is needed in the morning

Stay Grounded

Blue Pause

Blue Pause is a grey, true blue that encourages relaxation and promotes mental wellbeing. Although it is a true blue, this shade has a tranquil softness to it, making it ideal for East facing spaces used to unwind in. Alternatively, you could utilise Blue Pause’s calming influence and bring an element of calm to busy spaces!

A DCO favourite! Flat White is a balanced shade, making it a perfect option for an East facing room. It’s warm brown undertones will take the edge off cooler evening light, while it’s grey hues will keep it from appearing too creamy or “hot” in the warmer morning light.
