Can you make just the wrapper filled with nutella beforehand and fry it whenever I need? If so, do I refrigerate it or freeze it?

    • Dina says

Hi Sharada 🙂 You should be able to make these ahead and have them sit for a few days in the refrigerator until you fry them. I have not tried making these ahead so I am not too sure how they will turn out. If you give it a try let me know 🙂

You’re welcome Irina. Most grocery stores have them. They are usually found in the refrigerated Asian food section. I always see them next to the spring roll wraps and tofu.

These look delish!!! Quick question, do u flip them when frying? Or put enough oil to submerge them completely?

    • simplyhomecooked says

Hi Olesya, I don’t flip them. They cook to fast for me to even flip them. Just make sure there is a good amount of oil. About 1 inch should be enough.

FAQs

How hot should oil be to fry wontons? ›

Heat oil in a wok or large saucepan over medium-high heat to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Deep-fry a few wontons at a time until brown and crispy, 2 to 3 minutes.

How long do you air fry wontons? ›

Spray a little bit of oil to help it crisp. Then air fry at 400°F for 8 minutes or until golden and crispy. Give it a good toss halfway through so it cooks evenly. The results are super crispy wontons, like the texture of potato chips, with a filling that is still nice and juicy!

What do you do with Nutella spread? ›

Simply spread Nutella® on top of a croissant, waffle, crepe, pancake or piece of toast. Enjoy a special breakfast with Nutella® with your family, and watch how the magic of Nutella® transforms a simple morning into something extraordinary.

Do wontons get soggy? ›

Nobody likes a soggy Fried Wonton, and there's a great trick to getting the wrapper ultra crisp. Instead of sealing the wrapper shut like an envelope with water, you leave the majority of the folded wrapper unsealed, using just a dab of water to pinch the ends together.

How do you keep wontons crispy after frying? ›

The best way to keep fried foods crispy? Just place them on a cooling rack set over a baking sheet. If you're frying multiple batches, throw the whole setup into a low oven to keep everything warm as you keep frying and adding to the rack.

How do you know when wontons are done cooking? ›

Bring a wok halfway full with water to a boil, and then reduce the heat to a simmer. Cook the wontons in batches until they float to the surface, 3 to 4 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon.

What's the difference between fried dumplings and fried wontons? ›

Wonton is a type of dumpling that uses a wonton dough wrapper or wonton skin. The skin is smooth and more transparent when boiled. It is commonly served as fried pork dumplings or wonton noodle soup. Compared to traditional Chinese dumplings, a wonton wrapper is thinner and less elastic.

Do you seal wontons with water or egg? ›

The Bonnet

Begin by putting your filling in the middle of the wrapper and then folding the wrapper over into a half-rectangle, making sure to seal the edges with water. Bring the two edges of the folded side of the wonton together and seal them with another dab of water.

What is the best combination with Nutella? ›

Fruit: Nutella goes well with fruits like strawberries, bananas, and raspberries. You can dip the fruit directly into the Nutella or spread it on top. Pretzels: The combination of sweet and salty flavors makes Nutella an excellent pairing with pretzels.

Does melted Nutella Harden? ›

If you just drizzle regular Nutella over ice cream it gets a fudgy sort of texture, but melting it with a little coconut oil means it can be drizzled in a thin layer that hardens once it hits the cold ice cream.

What flavor is Nutella? ›

Nutella is described as a chocolate and hazelnut spread, although it is mostly made of sugar and palm oil.

Why do my wontons fall apart? ›

Often they burst during cooking because they have too much filling for the amount of dough. Some doughs are too dry, so the dumplings won't stay sealed. Others can be too wet and sticky and end up tearing. If the filling isn't cohesive enough, it will tumble out when you bite into it.

Why do my wontons puff up? ›

During the deep frying process, the water in the filling can turn into steam and cause the wonton to puff up and even burst, causing the filling to ooze out, leaving only an empty shell.

What temperature should oil be for frying? ›

Most deep frying starts with oil between 325 and 375 degrees, but the temperature drops when food is added. Once the oil recovers some heat, it should remain somewhere between 250 and 325 degrees (depending on your recipe) for the duration of cooking.

How to cook wontons in a frying pan? ›

Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil in a large skillet. Once the oil is hot add the wontons (be careful the oil will splatter). Add ¼ of water then close the skillet lid for 2-3 mins and repeat in the remaining batches. Enjoy hot!

What temperature do you fry Chinese? ›

It depends on the recipe, but most suggest you heat the oil to somewhere between 350 degrees and 375 degrees Fahrenheit. (Partly this depends on the size of the food being cooked, as larger items can be deep-fried at a lower temperature).

How hot oil to pan fry? ›

Heat the oil over medium-high heat, not high heat. You want the oil to reach the right temperature (about 350° F to 375° F), but not too quickly. A lower heat prevents things from getting out of hand.
