Blackout Window Treatments - Shades & Blinds | The Shade Store (2024)

EXPLORE BLACKOUT WINDOW TREATMENTS

The Shade Store offers blackout materials for Roller Shades and Cellular Shades and blackout lining for many of our Roman Shade, Woven Wood Shade or Drapery materials. To add blackout lining, simply select ‘Blackout’ in the Lining segment of our customization process. Our Wood Blinds are also great room-darkening window treatments — just tilt the slats for darkness — and our Cornices prevent light seepage at the top of your windows. Please note, Wood Blinds will darken your spaces but will not provide complete blackout. Keep in mind, you will have light seepage where the slats meet. Adding a decorative tape during the customization process will cover the ladder holes for additional light coverage, but still not provide complete blackout.

WHAT ARE BLACKOUT WINDOW TREATMENTS?

Our Blackout Roller Shades and Blackout Cellular Shades are made with special materials that block 99% of natural light from entering through your windows. Blackout lining is a fabric that can be added to the back of many of our Roman Shade and Drapery materials to transform them into blackout window treatments.

BENEFITS OF BLACKOUT WINDOW TREATMENTS

Blackout window treatments offer:

Privacy
When closed, our blackout window treatments offer privacy and are the best option if you’re looking for minimal light to get through.

Better Sleep
Our blackout window treatments give you darkness whenever and wherever you need it, making them perfect for bedrooms and media rooms.

Body & Weight
Adding blackout lining to your Roman Shades and Drapery not only blocks natural light, but also adds fullness to your window treatments and protects the material from fading.

LIGHT FILTERING VS. BLACKOUT SHADES

Our Light Filtering Window Treatments are designed to soften light coming in through your windows, provide some privacy and create comforting environments. Our Blackout Shades and blackout lining let you achieve darkness day or night by blocking out 99% of light and provide full privacy when closed.

TYPES OF ROOM-DARKENING SHADES

The Shade Store offers six types of room-darkening window treatments:

Blackout Roller Shades
Achieve darkness with our classic roller shade design. Cordless and motorized control options are available.

Blackout Roman Shades
Complimentary blackout lining can be added to many of our Roman Shade materials for increased sun protection and improved insulation and light control.

Blackout Drapes
Blackout lining can be added to many of our Drapery materials for privacy, room-darkening and insulation for an additional fee. Motorized control options are available.

Blackout Woven Wood Shades
Complimentary blackout lining can be added to our Woven Wood Shades for privacy and darkness. Cordless and motorized control options are available.

Blackout Wood Blinds
Our Wood Blinds are a great room-darkening window treatment option — just tilt the slats for easy light control — but they do not provide complete blackout. Decorative tapes can be added for additional coverage, but will still not darken your spaces completely. A cordless control option is available to open and close your blinds with a gentle pull, and a motorized option is available for tilt only.

Blackout Cellular Shades
Achieve excellent insulation, privacy, and darkness with our Blackout Cellular Shades collection, available in 3/4" Single Cell and 3/8" Double-Cell options. Cordless and motorized control options are also available.
