5 ways to serve bone broth to babies (and kids!) — Dr. Carrie Rigoni : Chiropractor Perth (2024)

Top 5 ways to get bone broth into your baby and kids

1.Directly

Warm it up, put it in a cup or on a spoon, and give it to them directly. Simples! This is how I started introducing bone broth to my babies, before I progressed their diet into more complex flavours and textures. By giving bone broth first, it becomes a familiar flavour for their meals (and we know that babies prefer familiar.. and the only way for something to get familiar? is to continuously expose them to the flavour).

2. As a base for their meals

You can cook up a big batch of broth, and put it in any meal you create. My favourite meals to add broth to include:

You have an opportunity with most cooked meals to get some broth into your child, and work towards healing their gut. I have bone broth in the fridge most weeks, but also have the bone broth paste and powder available for the weeks I don’t have fresh broth available.

3. Bone Broth Icey Poles

You read that right! Adding a dash of bone broth to a healing, fruity icey pole will add some healing power to their treat.

Combine 1/4 cup bone broth with coconut cream, and fruits of your choice, blend and freeze for 4 hours.. You’ve got yourself an icey pole that the kids will love!

4. Bone Broth Gummies

My kids think gummies are delicious treat lollies, and I don’t mind giving them a few because they’re full of goodness too! Try this one:

  • 3 ⅓ tablespoons gelatin powder

  • 2 tablespoons honey

  • 1 cup frozen raspberries

  • ½ cup lemon juice

Instructions

  1. In a small pot, off heat, stir chicken bone broth with gelatin. Let sit 3-5 minutes while you prepare the fruit.

  2. In a blender, add frozen raspberries and lemon juice. Blend on high until fully combined. It should have a smoothie-like texture.

  3. Heat bone broth gelatin mixture over low heat, stirring occasionally. Oncethegelatin has melted and has a smooth consistency, add honey to the pot stirring until it dissolves.

  4. Add raspberry and lemon mixture to the pot and mix well over low heat.

  5. Remove pot from the stove and pour the mixture into small silicone molds.

  6. Move silicone molds to the refrigerator and let sit for 20 minutes, or until firm. Remove the gummies from the silicone molds and enjoy.

5. Bone broth smoothies

It’s no lie when they say you can pretty much hide anything in a smoothie, if you wanted to. Bone broth is no different. Got a favourite smoothie recipe? Add a dash of bone broth. While you’re at it, add some collagen powder, flaxseeds or avocado for some added fat and protein.
